CHILDREN OF REEF

By. Sumiman Udu and Omar Pidani

I swam over the sea restlessly
Crawling through seabed of reefs relentlessly
In search of the paths of my ancestors histories
now crafted perfectly
in our lullabies and telling stories .

Hmm, they’ve all vanished tragically
All these nests are burnt out into pieces
And those sands are not things in common
Yet, where is Kaluku Sara
Where is Motika
Where is Kaindea
And where is Untu, Bungi and Sangia

Don’t come and bother us, when we’re hopeless
Don’t come and buy our piece of earth in the middle of our poverty
Don’t ruin our live in the middle of our ignorance

Stopi it please, stop it !!
Stop all the lies
As we’re human just like you
We need food, shelter and love
Not the crows’ humming
Coming out of a lion’s mouth
That resembles wolf’s death woofing

We’re dying
Because our tears are drained
From fire you turn to dry them on
The rest have spilled over
To fill up the court’s room
